It entered into force in January 2009 law 220/2008 establishing the legal regime of fire safety in buildings. This law is regulated by Decree 1532/2008. Among other legal obligations the new law establishes the requirement for periodic verification of existing fire elements in buildings similar to what was the case previously with extinguishers. These elements include for example the doors that separate the stairs from the atrium to the elevators.
